This project is a work in progress. Expect bugs and missing features.
Tensamin
Customisable, privacy-first, self-hosted messaging made in Germany
Features
1. Custom channels
As long as it compiles to WASM, you can choose any programming language you like! It can then run on both the client and server sides. You can create custom plugins with full control over the entire community, or build a channel that does whatever you want. The possibilities are endless!
2. It's fast as f*ck boooiii
MTP is a custom protocol based on QUIC that provides high-speed, low-latency connections. It is so fast that there is no need to wait for a connection. It is heavily optimised and saves any bits it can.
3. High customizability
The mobile app, desktop app and web app will always be consistent in terms of UI and theming options. Get creative and make changes such as injecting custom CSS or providing a base16 colour scheme. Alternatively, you can just change the primary colour.
4. Selfhostability
With an Iota, you can host your own messages, ensuring they are not scattered across different devices and requiring extra time to sync. As the Iota is self-hosted, you can upload files as large as your storage allows.
5. There are three connection types to choose from
Funding
Business structure
This is our future goal! At the moment we're unable to proceed due to German law (it sucks):
As a for-profit company, Methanium will create enterprise solutions that integrate with our products. Meanwhile, Tensamin is a non-profit organisation, so users remain the primary focus. Methanium has no incentive to sell Tensamin and will never do so.
During Methanium's early development stages, Tensamin will be part of its for-profit structure until we have enough money and resources to establish an additional non-profit entity. While it is part of the for-profit entity, Tensamin will continue to prioritise users and privacy. The founders of Methanium and Tensamin are the same. They have no incentive to create a hard split, as Methanium depends on Tensamin's health and trustworthiness in order to build reliable enterprise integrations.
What are our costs?
Like every online service, we have to pay for server costs and bandwidth (sadly, they do not grow on trees). However, since you prefer to store messages on your own devices, we do not have to operate expensive storage servers. We are able to fund our operational expenses thanks to your kind contributions. For the most generous users who want extra bandwidth, we provide a subscription.
Commercial Usage
Tensamin is dual-licensed with MTH-1.0 and MTH-Commercial-1.0, Companies may prefer to use the MTH-Commerical-1.0 license.
